1 TUTORIAL 6 Golden Section MethodI.OBJECT Use the golden section method to find an optimize point of equation in MATLAB Develop the algorithm of the Golden section method II.PROCESS and RESULT 1.Introduction The Golden Section method is a technique to find out the extremum (maximum or minimum) of a strictly unimodal function by successively narrowing the range of values. This method maintains the function values for triples of points whose distances from a Golden Ratio, So its known as Golden Section Method or Golden Ratio Method or Golden Mean Method. -But what is Unimodal Function? Unimodal Function: a function f(x) is a unimodal function if for some value m, it is monotonically increasing for X<= m and monotonically decreasing for x>=m. In that case, the maximum value of f(x) is f(m) and there are no other local maxima. 2.The Golden Section Algorithm The following algorithm can be used to determine the maximum of a function f(x).

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
