Lab 4 Comparators circuit using Logic Gates I. Introduction 1. Activity Build and simulate Equality comparator circuit by logic gate Build and simulate Magnitude comparator circuit by logic gate Build several types of comparator circuit such as one bit, two bits or 4 bits circuit. 2. Theory Binary comparators, also called digital comparators or logic comparators, are combinational logic circuits that are used for testing whether the value represented by one binary word is greater than, less than, or equal to the value represented by another binary word. Two basic types of comparator can be used. Equality comparators. Magnitude comparators. II. Lab Experiment 1. Equality Comparator The equality comparator is the simplest form of comparator circuit for determining whether two number are equal. Practice a. By using truth table of Exclusive-NOR gate, explain why it can be used in building the basic 1-bit Equality comparator circuit. The circuit of the equality comparator consists of an exclusive NOR gate (XNOR) per pair of input bits. If the two inputs are identical (both 1s or both 0s) an output of logic 1 is obtained as it can be use as equality comparator which has the same characteristic.
b. Verify with 2-bit Equality comparator circuit by implementing and simulating on Quartus Prime software for input as figure 2 below.
