Week 1 | Part 1: My Academic and Professional Network Creating a professional network is important in any career when it comes to finding jobs, sharing ideas and knowledge, getting support, and advancing your career. According to Schmidt (n.d.), developing a professional network in nursing is “probably the single best approach for nurses to land the jobs they want”. Having an academic and professional network is an important part in achieving my goals. Academically, if I don’t have a good support system, access to resources, or a school that provides me with the tools necessary to succeed, it would be difficult to accomplish my academic goal of getting my advanced nursing degree. Having an academic network of individuals and teams through Walden is integral to my success. Professionally, my network allows me to have the support, encouragement, and even professional contacts to find and assist in the job that I’m interested and passionate about. Overall, having both an academic and professional network is a key step in accomplishing my goals both in school and in my everyday nursing practice. NETWORK MEMBER 1 Name: Walden Nursing Faculty Professors Title: Professors Organization: Walden University Academic or Professional: Academic Why I selected this individual and/or team and how they will support my success in the MSN program and as a practicing nurse:
Walden Nursing Faculty has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. According to Phyllis Morgan, the faculty here at Walden is “passionate” about providing the students with a good experience and “helping students achieve their goals to become a masters prepared nurse” (Laureate Education, Inc, 2018). It is extremely important to have a team of faculty members that provide us with resources and knowledge to assist us in becoming successful in our classes and in reaching our goals. The faculty at Walden assists in creating an excellent learning environment to promote growth in the nursing field. They promote engaged learning through discussion posts and responses. To be able to have this resource when you are having trouble with concepts and obstacles makes Walden Faculty a great academic contact for my network.
