Patel 1 Neel Patel Ms. Passalacqua English 4 (4) 03 May 2019 Sisterhood Good advice is always certain to be ignored. Socrates identifies this in his play Antigone . When Creon, the king of Thebes, buries only one of his nephews with a proper burial and outlaw the burial of the other. Antigone, the sister of Creon’s nephews, objects Creon’s decision and chooses to bury her brother properly. Antigone encourages her sister, Ismene, to help bury her brother. Ismene, however, decides not to support Antigone and urges her not to do that considering that it is outlawed by the king. However, Antigone neglects Ismene’s advice which leads to her death. One should be open to family’s advice or it can lead to his/her downfall. Antigone is rebellious, however, Ismene is obedient to Creon. For instance, when Creon asks Antigone that if she had broken the law knowingly, Antigone replies, “Yes. Zeus did not announce those laws to me. And Justice living with the gods below sent no such laws for men” (Socrates 508). Antigone knowingly breaks Creon’s decree and expressly announces that she is
