Meritus Health is an example of both open and closed systems. Information is meant to be shared within an organization, so a hospital, in my mind would be better as an open system organization. Open systems interact with their environment. Closed systems on the other hand have interactions that only occur within a specific system or unit. The don’t interact with other departments nor do they receive input or output from other systems or departments (Quain, 2018). The hospital is mostly an open system environment; however, my unit tends to be a closed system environment. I work on a closed unit for inpatient psychiatry. We do things much differently on my unit than the rest of the hospital does. With the confidentiality of patients being a major concern, psych is treated differently, even when it comes to our EHR; personal in the rest of the hospital must “break glass” in order to look at the records of a psych patient.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
