Artifacts and Theme HUM200 Cultural Artifacts My first work is a piece of visual art known as "Marble bust of a man" from an unknown artist constructed 1st century C.E. in Rome. This piece shows a man with stern and worn features suggesting a difficult life. My second piece of art is literature by Plato known called The Allegory of the Cave . This piece was created in ancient Greece and follows the story of several prisoners and one of whom escapes the cave and becomes enlightened. The work follows his experiences as he views the real world and discusses the implications of such a discovery with his fellow prisoners. Common Theme The common theme shared by "Marble bust of a man" and The Allegory of the Cave is that of our culture. "Marble bust of a man” pertains to culture by showing how men back in ancient Rome looked and alluded to how the culture of the society was in regard to their trades. The man's face
