Grasmere-a fragment Dorothy Wordsworth was a writer during the romantic period. Her most famous work came from her private journals. It is a terrible tragedy that her work was unvalued when she was alive due to her brother's success. Out of her Grasmere journals, “Grasmere-A fragment” uses the most imagery. She wrote it when she lived with her brother, William Wordsworth, in Grasmere during 1799. In the Grasmere journals, she illustrated in amazing detail her everyday life and the Dove cottage where she dwelled until 1808. “Grasmere- a fragment”, is about her house in the woods. The theme of the lyrical poem is the subject, consequently, her use of imagery is magnificent. In stanza 9, line 34-35 it says, “Skirted with many a lesser tree, Hazel and holly, beech and oak”, surely this represents the sturdiness of the house, however, it also represents her feelings of safety inside this cottage.
