IN 1984, CONGRESS PASSED THE NATIONAL MINIMUM DRINKING AGE ACT, WHICH REQUIRED STATES TO RAISE THEIR AGES FOR PURCHASE AND PUBLIC POSSESSION TO 21 BY OCTOBER 1986. SOUTH DAKOTA AND WYOMING WERE THE LAST 2 STATES TO HAVE THE DRINKING AGE AT 21. MY STATE, ILLINOIS, 1961 THE AGE WAS 21. 1973 THE AGE LOWERED TO 19 FOR BEER AND WINE; AND 21 FOR LIQUOR. 1980 TO NOW IS HAS BEEN 21 FOR THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE.
