Running head: COUNSELOR INTERVIEW PAPER2Abstract The purpose of this abstract is to examine the role of a counselor in the professional setting. An interview will be put in place to explore all of the relevant objectives of a professional counselor. In this paper, there will be close evaluation of the many objectives that counselors are expected to meet during the academic year. The subject(s) surrounding career information, assessment, and career counseling will be assessed. This paper will also investigate strategies for advocating for diverse clients with respect to career, educational development, and employment opportunities. Strategies used to facilitate client skill development for career, education, and life-work planning, managing, and advocating for special needs children will also be discussed throughout the course of this paper.
Running head: COUNSELOR INTERVIEW PAPER3IntroductionThe interview portion of this paper is intended to provide prospective counselors with an opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation with a professional currently employed in the field. This allows students to learn more about the specialty that they aspire to be employed in upon graduation. The paper will discuss the counselor’s background, educational achievements and any training in preparation for the desired career. The work environment of theinterviewee will also be explored. Discussion(s) of job duties, responsibilities, and the populationthat the counselors interact with, along with the counselor’s philosophy, and day-to-day activitieswill be investigated throughout this paper. Lastly, this paper will discuss any assessments used bythe counselor to assist in their work and how professional development activities are coordinated,as well as any rewards or aggravations associated with the career will be reviewed.During the interview, the focal point will be based on the counselor’s objectives in providing career information, assessment, and career counseling for clients. Strategies used for advocating for diverse clients with respect to career, educational development, and any employment opportunities in the global economy; any strategies used to facilitate client skill development for career, education, life-working, managing, and strategies for advocating for clients with specials needs will be discussed during the interview.Shyra Thomas: Admissions & Financial Aid CounselorFor this interview, counselor Shyra Thomas, who is an Admission and Financial Aid counselor at the University of Dayton will be questioned. Thomas has been involved in the field of counseling for more than eight years now. She mentioned that colleges usually have separate departments for Admissions and Financial Aid, but at the University of Dayton it has been possible for them to bridge the two together. Ms. Thomas is responsible for providing guidance
