Christopher Anosike February 28, 2014 Professor Monos BA 3103 Analysis Paper BlackBerry’s issues stemmed from its anticipation of having long-term success by going private [ CITATION Con13 \l 1033 ]. The three problems associated with BlackBerry’s financial shortcomings are revenue, profit and cash flow. Revenue declined as financial performance decreased. An assertion by Marketline said that BlackBerry had revenues of $11 billion at the end of March 2013, which was downgraded from the past year by 39.9% (Research in Motion Limited, 2013). Marketline stated that the cause of the revenue falling was mainly due to lower shipment volumes and lower average selling prices of hardware products, which affected its ability to keep up with its competitors (Research in Motion Limited, 2013). Additionally, BlackBerry was challenged by MobileIron and AirWatch, but mainly Phones and Android handsets. According to a study by TWICE, BlackBerry’s Z10 screen size is 4.2 inches as compared to the iPhone 5, which is 4 inches (Olenick, Palenchar, Wolf, 2013). The study shows that BlackBerry’s Z10 only stores 16GB phone, the Galaxy S III stores 16GB and a 32GB while the iPhone 5 stores 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB (Olenick, Palenchar, Wolf, 2013).
