Professional Development Plan
My professional development plan has not changed much from the time that I began my
doctoral studies a short time ago. I have found that instead of it changing, it has evolved. As a
doctoral level learner my priorities constantly shift. No two priorities are exactly the same and if
they are, they soon change. Allowing myself the time and patience to learn how things are done
in a doctoral program vs. my previous masters’ program has made a difference.
Goal 1: Road to My Business
A major goal that I have had is to start a business for a number of years now. Much of the
framework is currently being done. I am knowledgeable in the area of small business
development because my full time job works to assist small businesses, especially those owned
by minorities, veterans or women with obtaining government contracts. Since I have extensive
knowledge in that area, I have begun to prepare contractual documents for my business when it
is launched.
A Business with a Community Touch
A major goal as I prepare to launch my business is to establish a significant
presence in the community. This will help during the business launch as members
of the community will already be aware of my services…
I am eager to achieve this goal because I understand the value that it will bring to
different age groups and demographics. Services that I will offer will bring much
needed resources to high school and college students, those actively in the
workforce but looking for new opportunities as well as those re-entering the
workforce after care-giving. In launching my business, a huge resource will be
current companies that already offer similar services. I know a few owners of

staffing agencies and those who empower aspiring entrepreneurs. These people
are valuable resources and currently in my Personal Learning Network. Their
involvement is valuable to me as a new business still learning the ropes. I have
made a goal to stay in constant communication with them throughout the week.
My goal is to converse with them electronically twice per week and check in via
phone bi-weekly.
I plan to use technology to the upmost! In today’s society, communicating with
others through email, social media and other electronic means is vital! We live in
a technology driven world, so appealing to customers and clients in that aspect is
crucial to get and hold their interest. I plan to hold live and “after the fact”
recorded webinars, IG and FB contest for those following my marketing pages. I
