The purpose of this lab was to demonstrate the effects of friction from different surfaces and surfaces areas. A series of questions were answered to support the results from the tests. This experiment implemented a block of work with 3 different surface types and 2 different surface areas. The block was weighed down with an item of my choice and pulled using a spring scale. All readings were done in newtons for universal reading. Attached is a picture of the experiment setup for the first portion. The only change was repositioning or changing blocks, everything else was kept

constant.

1.The first block weighed 400 grams, the second block lined with glass on one side and sandpaper on the other weighed 414.7 grams2.Converting the weight into the universal measurement of newtons produced new readings of 3.9227N for the first block and 4.07N for the second block3.Surface area doesn’t provide much impact on the force required to overcome friction.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
