RESOLVING CONFLICT 2 Mediation is a non-binding process of conflict resolution in which a mediator (impartial third party) facilitates negotiations between the disputants. A mediator has the role of setting and enforcing rules with the consent of the parties in a dispute but has no decision making power as the parties maintain control over the substantial outcome of the mediation (Moore, 2014) . Some valuable qualities of a good mediator include: Approachability A good mediator should be friendly to the disputants, empathetic, as well as respectful. They should be able to listen carefully to both parties and have a genuine concern about those involved in the dispute (Fraser et al. 2017). Dedication Mediators should be dedicated to their work because dedication is considered to be an important quality in professionals.
