Explain how family systems theory can be used to better understand the interactions of a modern family (traditional or nontraditional). A family is a group of people who are either related by consanguinity, affinity or co-residence. A family type that is prevalent today and encompasses different family structures is the extended family. This type of family covers at least three generations which include the grandparents, the married offspring and the grandchildren. Non-traditional families are including the single parenthood families, same-sex families, cohabitations and polygamous families. This type of family is different from traditional families because it consists of the husband, wife, and the children; whether the children are biological or adopted [CITATION Per16 \l 1033 ].
