NRS-430V-Professional Dynamics-W2 Q2 The public perception of nursing has varied so much since its foundation, and since then the profession has faced discrimination, prejudice, and a less than desired public perception. The profession of nursing has been represented by men who were believed to have magical healing powers, indigents, and prostitutes (Dean, J. (2018). Today, nursing is an excellent profession to pursue, but it still faces some stigma and discrimination due to its history, and even nursing ranks as the number one profession as the most honest and trusted in the US for sixteen years straight. Unfortunately, the profession still faces negative public perception. There are a few factors that affect the public's perception of nursing. For example, Europe in the 1970's considered nursing no different than prostitution. Also, Hollywood makes a significant public perception influence, but often the profession is portrayed in a way far away from reality.
