Show how certain original concepts change over time o Something really serious often changes overtime o Samurai clips: first showed classic samurai film in 1954, then showed an homage to samurai with kill bill, then showed samurai delicatessen from SNL, going from realistic view to parody Show continuity, consistency in how Japanese, Chinese and Koreans are treated in films o On Simpsons, SNL and extreme challenge, parody of Japanese game shows o Shows in US sort of like Japanese games shows: fear factor but still very different than Japanese humor or entertainment Images of China and Japan have changed o Family guy: in asia town when stewie gets stuck to sewing machine, replace him with a new-born baby Godzilla o Strong sense of Japanese pride o Godzillas unpredictable and not really Japanese o Ambiguity to science and technology o Good guys and bad guys are ambivalent o In Japanese version, family is important, community works together (collectivism).
