COOKIES AND PRIVACY 2 Cookies and Privacy Introduction Web servers transmit messages that are called cookies to the web servers, this activity allows the web server to keep track of all the activities that are performed on a given website. The message that is always conveyed to the browser is always from the HTTP reader ad it contains text only. The cookies that come in that form of message are again stored in the memory of the browser. Today cookies are among the most pressing challenge when it comes to internet privacy. One of the widely used methods of customizing and tailoring information and service over the internet is through the use of cookies ( Shah & Becker, 2012) The cookies are always there when the browser is closed and reopened later. The information that cookies had will remain in the browser’s memory as long as they are not removed. There are several reasons why site use cookies, they include: To monitor advertisements, the websites will use the cookies to keep track of the ads that it lets you see and how often you are able to see the displayed ads. Advertisements of personal information have gone to the extent that only a selected group of people can view it ( Tucker, 2012). They use cookies in order to collect the demographic information, this will include who is visiting the web site. They help to make the experience in the sites more personalized. They do this by helping to store information about you that so that when you come back you will have a more personalized experience. However, the cookies as it has been put across, they do not act maliciously in the system they are used, as a computer system. The cooking is simple and is text that can be deleted

COOKIES AND PRIVACY 3 anytime from the system. They can not be used to spread the virus in the computer system in addition to that they can not gain access to your hard drive. However, that does not mean they are not relevant when it comes to your computer system privacy and anonymity while accessing the internet.
