Objective morality has a different meaning in philosophy to its use in everyday discussion. A philosopher's moral 'subjectivist' still says you should be moral, and that murder is immoral; the issue is just what sort of world we live in for that to be the case. A proposition is objective if its truth value is independent of the person uttering it. A fact is objective in the same way. For morality to be objective, moral propositions such as "Killing is bad”, “Stealing is bad", etc... need to be true independently of the person who is stating them. Also, answering this question based on religion, since it may provide a source of moral truth. There are some problems with identifying a religion origin to morality. This touches off the base on ethics of divine commands. The idea of truth as the objective is simply that no matter what we believe to be the case, some things will always be true and other things will always be false. Who Believes in Objective Truth? Why do People Believe in Objective Truth? Starting off with how people claim that god exists. When it comes to God, a lot of Virtuous people either have or don’t have, good reasons for their actions. If they don’t have good reasons, their actions are arbitrary. If they do have good reasons to support their actions, then these reasons, and not the actions themselves, determine what is right and wrong. The latter is the more plausible position. With religion, for example in Shafer’s “The fundamentals of ethics”, which I read outside of the course, Shafer argues that Shafer-Landau critiques virtue ethics, arguing that virtue ethics and the divine command theory. share a basic
