Wilson English The reason i consider Bilbo as a heroic character in the Hobbit is, Because he shows heroic signs as he saves the Dwarves from the wood elves by going through secret passages then escaping by barrels in the river. Bilbo has also saved the Dwarves by killing one of the spiders then giving the Dwarves the ring and letting them escape (Bilbo followed them closely). Bilbo has also has stopped a war from breaking out between the dwarves and the elves, Bilbo gives the Arkenstone to the Dwarves (Thorin). It’s very clear that Bilbo shows many sign of being a heroic character he puts other lives before his own, he also makes sacrifices. He also shows signs of leadership he helps he doesn’t just sit there and watch you fail. Bilbo is the most outspoken character in the book he speaks his mind he isn’t scared to do it at all. Bilbo is also the most clever one of the group he survived againist gollum but making up a riddle long enough where he can escape from gollum, then Bilbo escaped from smaug he entered his cave then exited because smaug didn’t reconize his smell. No one should even question why Bilbo isn’t a hero he clearly shows signs of being a hero, Bilbo saves himself, the dwarves, and shows very strong signs of being a leader. Gandalf even told Bilbo that he was proud of him, then Thorin even cheered before he died, the group ( including Gandalf) sometimes looks up to him as a person that should be in charge (This is just my opinion).
