Gonzalez 1 Luisa F Gonzalez Tony Procell English 1302 1 February 2018 The Jilting of Granny Weatherall’s Life Analysis In “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” Katherine Anne Porter shares a story about the main character known as Granny Weatherall and how she is in her last hours. Emotion is put into the story as a way to catch the audience’s attention, and make you think about people close to you that have passed away. Porter’s short story describes how humans tend to think about the future instead of living in the present, and how the flashbacks make you think and regret many things that you have and have not done during all of your living years. Porter uses repetition of the word “tomorrow” throughout the short story to emphasize the usage of that word throughout our lives. We like to think that certain things we have to do “would be tomorrow’s business” (Porter 353), meaning that we think that we will be here the next day.
