Bow Street Runners: *Henry Fielding : appointed magistrate (judge) in Westminster city near London = settled in what is called BOW STREET =very high crime during the era = contracted with pawnbrokers (provided a list of stolen properties) =gained some support =formed an investigation division called the “bow street runners *piecework compensation * some public funding (though made secretly) *public against the idea (tyrannical) *died out with the death of Henry Fielding
