Child abuse can be defined as physical or emotional maltreatment of a child. Children with disabilities may exhibit a higher risk of child abuse. This can be due to the fact that children with disabilities require more time and attention than the average child (Palusci, 2017). Health care providers should be well versed in knowing what to look for when there is suspected child abuse. Some signs of child abuse can include inconsistencies in the story of the injury, bruises at various stages of healing, and parents who seem to be frustrated a lot when talking about their child (Atencion et al., 2019). It is important for the healthcare provider to be able to assess children and pick up on signs of child abuse as this may be the child’s only chance to be helped. It is vital for the health care provider to understand that they are the advocate for the child. A child is unable to seek help against child abuse. It is the responsibility of the healthcare provider to report any and all child abuse that is witness or suspected (Palusci, 2017). It is however, not the
