I agree with Kozol’s essay about illiteracy leading to a less democratic society. If youcannot read or write, it is difficult to make informed decisions. You may have to depend onothers to keep you informed and other people cannot always be trusted. As Kozol pointed out inhis article, you will rely on people whom you cannot trust to give you correct information. Theymay even make decisions based on what is popular instead of their views. It is important tocomprehend in today’s society and illiterate people cannot always comprehend things onthemselves since they cannot read.Illiterate people cannot make informed decisions at the polls and voting is a right thatwe should exercise if we can.
