Tier 1 Schoolwide PBIS
Is a framework for delivering behavioral support to all
students within a school setting
Rearranges the environment to make certain behaviors more
likely and others less likely
Multi-tiered preventive system
Tier 1 “universal” level of intervention, designed to prevent as many
behavioral issues as possible; around 80% of students respond to this
level
Tier 2 “targeted” interventions, support provided for students with
history of low-level, chronic behavior problems; around 15% of students
Tier 3 individualized and intensive behavioral interventions; around 5%
of students
SWPBIS
Has been associated with lower rates of discipline
referrals
Increased attendance
Higher test scores
Fewer referrals to special education
Improvement to school climate
