I. Introduction II. Cold War and Conforming Starts lat 1940’s thru 1960’s Development of the Cold war results in a continuing idea that the west is at  war Therefore, the political leaders need to maintain the country as they are still at  war.  Because the cold war is against communism, the government believes  that anyone connected to anything communism in automatically a trader to  the US o Creates a fear Produces a new culture to drama: SPY stuff (such as James Bound) o A new culture that starts attacking anyone that might be communist.  The government aggressively seeks out anyone who may have  connection to the Soviet Union and communism in general o McCarthyism, led my senator Joseph McCarthy 1950: Appointed to a committee called the Tidings committee,  who looked into people who had connections to communism, in  the US state department Committee lasted for only about a year, but McCarthy didn’t  stop after it ended In 1953, they assigned him to an un-active community, the  Senate Permanent Subcommittee For small investigations of people in the senate However takes it and completely blows open its uses Investigates ANYBODAY he can accuse First looks at a group called Voices of America started in 1953 One person finally stepped up against it, a famous journalist by  the name of Edward R. Murrow Started accusing the US Army, the fighting forces to protect the
