I. Introduction II. Fading and Dissolution of the Soviet Union Soviet Union was never as powerful as the US After 45 or so years of the cold war, and millions and millions of dollars, the  Soviet Union is finally reaching a point where it cant continue anymore o Big part: The standard of living went down a lot in the country o No matter how much $ you had, you couldn’t get what you wanted, bec  there wasn’t enough of it… Wait list for things such as cars, etc. Black market forms: People would go the US buy stuff, and  bring back to sell for 4-5x’s more back in the Soviet Union o The government has to finally let things change, and a new leader  comes in: Mikhail Gorbachev, who becomes president Comes to power in 1985, realizes the struggles his country is  facing, and immediately takes action.
