Psychology Notes for 4-24-07 24/04/2007 15:24:00 Modules 45-49 - Psychological Disorders Body Dysmorphic Disorder video notes 5 Million people have it in the US People that hate seeing their reflection Prozac prescribed Eating Disorders Anorexia Nervosa o When a normal-weight person constricts their eating and becomes  significanty (>  15%) underweight, yet, still feeling fat, continues to  starve o Usually an adolescent female Bulimia Nervosa o Disorder characterized by binge-purge cycles: episodes of overeating,  usually of high-calorie foods, followed by vomiting, laxative use,  fasting, or excessive exercise Body Dysmorohic Disorder   Dissoctiavive and Scistsofrenic Disorders Dissociatvie Disorders What is dissociation? o Literally a dis-association of memory o Person suddenly becomes unaware of some aspect of their identity or  history o Unable to recall aspect except under special circumstances (e.g.  hypnosis) Three types are recognized: o Dissociative amnesia EX: Marian and her brother were recently victims of robbery.
