Executive Summary Tesla is quickly taking the world by storm with their unique, innovative electric vehicle concept. Herein, we will perform an analysis of Tesla’s internal environment, including strengths, weaknesses, and an assessment of their resources. Additionally, we will identify the most important environmental factors in the general, industry, and external analysis and assess the structure of the organization and how it affects Tesla’s overall performance. Finally, we will identify Tesla’s competitive position, resources, capabilities, and the inherent possibilities of core competencies.

1. Tesla’s Background In Tesla’s early years the company emphasized the uniqueness of its product offerings and their main customers were early adopters with above average net worth (Noh and Choi, 2017). Recently the company has been gaining more and more recognition and their generic strategy will need a more “broad” focus going forward. They have already showed signs of a shift in their strategy through the announcement of the Tesla C, their affordable all electric car that is soon to start production. With their new Gig factory under construction in Nevada as a means to increase production capacity and thus cutting costs, along with increased popularity and brand recognition, Tesla is able to target all automobile customers in the market for a new vehicle and not just those with 80k+ to spend on a car. Tesla’s old strategy was not a sustainable strategy with an increasing competitive landscape from other car manufacturers. With their new strategy of offering differentiated products for the entire industry they will likely have a sustainable future within the industry (Noh and Choi, 2017). 2. The environmental factors that are creating a need for sustainable marketing within the organization 2.1 The Internal Environment Tesla’s Human Resources team use the VRIO framework, by doing so they are able to better analyze the internal resources and capabilities of the organization to determine if they can be a source of continued competitive advantage (Jurevicius, 2013). To better understand Tesla's competitive advantages, we will use VRIO analysis. In terms of tangible resource value, Tesla is indeed valuable in that they are essentially the most notorious, and essentially the only, fully electric vehicle manufacturer. Tesla's are considered higher end vehicles and becoming more well priced with the addition of the Model 3 which offer loads of technological features. In addition,
