The trials and tribulations Lancelot endures test not only his love for Guinevere, but his prowess and upholding the values of knighthood. Meleagant, the primary antagonist, is a renowned knight in terms of combat but is “utterly devoid of kindness and compassion.” Meleagant’s overt pridefulness and overwhelming love for Guinevere is an exaggeration of the flaws present within Lancelot. Respectively, I find Melegant’s character to bea projection of the struggles Lancelot faces.Lancelot’s tenacity in upholding the courtly values of a knight and crossing of the sword bridge bolstered his reputation as a virtuous knight.
