01.06 Face of Freedom Social limitations It was rare for African Americans to acquire jobs, and equal pay was even more rare. Places that they were able to go were limited, punishable by jail time. They were unable to get higher class jobs that regular white people could get, and couldn’t marry white people or even go to the same schools as them. The 1800’s were a very hard time for African Americans to live in. A good example of the discrimination against African Americans would be the Jim Crow laws. Political Limitations African Americans were prevented from exercising their new political rights, mostly down south. An extremist group by the name of The Klu Klux Klan were strongly against African Americans. They did things such as intimidate voters, burned schools, and destroyed homes that belonged to black people, as well ass antagonized white people that saw African Americans as people.
