(5 marks) A simple definition of stereotyping is the process of assigning traits to people based on their membership in a social category. (p.66) When we make assumptions about a group, they are often from images we saw somewhere, mostly from movies and television. For example, people assume firefighters are known as rugged, risk oriented, physically strong and male. The key word there is male, women could be all those things as well (p.66). Stereotypes may prevent people from reaching their full potential in the workplace.
