O’Brien to Winston is someone he can relate to because Winston thinks that O’Brien wants the same thing that he wants. O’Brien is someone that stands out to Winston because he seems like someone who is going through the same thing Winston, himself, is going through- doubt. Winston trusts O’Brien because he thinks that they both can send messages to each other and trust each other. “But there was a fraction of a second when their eyes metr, and for as long as it took to happen Winston knew-yes, jhe knew!- that O’Brien seemed to be saying to him.” (p 17) This shows that even if Winston did not personally know he, he felt a connection between the two. There was also the brotherhood. Winston believed in trusted each other, even if they would backstab each other one day. Q7. Julia influences Winston by showing him different ways of life.
