Evelyn Gutierrez Ms. Pope Honors English 5-6 Period 8 2/22/18 Arthur Dimmesdale Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, a kind and holy man who is seen as good through the eyes of society. The left side representing how society sees Dimmesdale has a variety of symbols. The first symbol is a halo, and the halo is symbolizing how Dimmesdale is perceived as a very religious man who has done no wrong. He is also seen as an angel that was sent by God. His brown eye with a bible inside represents the people’s views on him being a holy man. An innocent smile has been placed on his left side only since, in reality, he is a sinner. The left side may be seen as plain, but that is because the people did not think a lot about him. They only saw him as this high and mighty man that providence has brought onto them. The word “inspiration” has been placed on his left side due to people having found comfort in him and having found inspiration through his use of words when preaching.
