NURS 6051-Transforming Nursing and Healthcare Through TechnologyThe Application of Data to Problem-SolvingModule 1 - Initial Discussion PostThe era of information technology is upon us, and daily we are being inundated with enormous amounts of data. In the nursing field, nursing informatics provides access to real-time reporting and knowledge for patient care. According to Cassano (2014), nursing informatics is defined as “any use of information technology by nurses for the purpose of enhanced patient outcomes, the management of healthcare facilities, nurse education and nursing research” (para. 4). Nurses undertake the role of becoming a lifelong learner and processor of information in their career (McGonigle & Garver Mastrian, 2018). All this knowledge leads to increased positive outcomes for patients. In this post, I will discuss a scenario where access to data can facilitate increased cooperation between healthcare entities.
