The California Floristic province biodiversity hotspot is the biodiverse hotspot I picked that is closest to
me. The California Floristic province is located on the west side of the united states. This province
expands for most of California. This area consists of many types of ecosystems from mountains to
wooded forests. Coastal waters create sage scrubs that creates shelter for birds and many other
creatures. Evergreen forests and redwood forests are just some types of forests at the California floristic
province. This creates habitats for many types of animals. This created many species of plants and
animals to be threatened and endangered.
The rarity of these areas created a hostile environment for
these creatures when humans come and take over the land. Many mammals have gone extinct in the
California Floristic province. One of the most know animal to go extinct in this area was the Gymnogyps
condor. This bird went extinct in the wild in the 1980’s. The development of humans has made it difficult
