Three Existing Designs: 1) Rubber/Tire Bumpers What it is and how it works: Using tire bumpers to protect the frame similar to bumper cars. This bumper system helps absorb impacts and increase the time of impact thus reducing the force experienced by the vehicle utilizing them. The rubber is an elastomer and can elastically deform on impact, more so than a more rigid material like aluminum or plastic. Since the rubber would want to return to its original shape, it allows for us to use the system more than once. Disadvantages: This type of bumper tends to be very bulky and fairly heavy. Although it would be very effective at protecting the bot, it would be very difficult to integrate this design into the existing frame and bot structure. 2) Spring bumper system What it is and how it works: This system uses a shock absorber connected to a rigid bumper. The shock would be used to absorb the brunt of the impact and would compress instead of having the frame see any damage.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
