Name: Makayla Watts Date: 6/30/19 Facilitator: Miller School: Ramsay High School 3.02 Comparing/Contrasting Chart Directions: Look at both poems and note the speakers’ differing attitudes toward love. “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” by Sir Walter Raleigh Speaker: hopeful and pleasant tone Speaker: Stanza 1: “Come live with me and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove” (1,2). The speaker’s attitude is enticing. He is asking his lover to come and be with him forever and if she does this, they will be able to experience everything the world has to offer and will have the best life. Stanza 1: “If all the world and love were young, And truth in every Shepherd’s tongue, These pleasures might me move, To live with thee, and be thy love” Here, the speaker is reluctant of the shepherd’s request. This reveals that the nymph does not see love as pure as the shepherd does and that she might have had a very different experience with love than the shepherd. Words like “if” and “truth” produce this argument.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
