This article has many useful statistics that describe how often and how much a teen uses a social media platform. They also discuss the amount of screen time a day. They try to explain to parents that there is more than one type of social media platform that they should be aware of. Teens are very supportive of the use of social media in today societies. Many teens find it has a positive impact on society while others are aware of the damage. There are many helpful quotes and stats in this article I will be coming back too Campbell, R. (2006, August 16). Teenage Girls and Cellular Phones: Discourses of Independence, Safety and 'Rebellion'. Retrieved March 16, 2019. Campbell wrote this article in efforts to explain the need for technology in this generation. She talks about how important social progressive movements are and cellphones are apart of that. She also doesn’t leave out the dangers of these technological advances. Three main disclosures come from technology; the media, parents and the teens themselves. The most interesting fact is that teens today are looking for three things in life; style, friendship, and individuality. This makes sense because teens overshare information on social media to promote openness and friendship. Social media is a wonderful outlet for teens to express themselves on a platform that is centered around them. The cellular telephone thus exists at the intersection of these competing discourses of independence, safety, and femininity.
