Christian Pérez Honors Biology 5 Mr. Quinn 16 February 2017 Seed Dissection Lab Pre-Lab Questions: 1. The seeds were soaked overnight, prior to the dissection, in order to make the cutting process easier. Also in order to to better identify the inner parts. 2. The purpose of the cotyledon, is to provide nutrients for the growing embryo inside the bean underground. 3. Once the seed is germinated, it receives its food from the soil from the nutrients taken by the roots. 4. Of the adult plant parts, the plumule will become embryonic leaves, the epicotyl will become the upper stem, the hypocotyls will become the stem of the adult plant, and the radical will become roots. 5. The seed we dissected, the small northern bean, is an angiosperm. This is evident as it's found in the ovary and is found from a flowering plant. 6. The seeds were dissecting are dicots. This is seen as they contain two seed leaves inside the seed coat. Seed Parts Definition/Function: Hilum: The hilum is a scar left by the stalk which attatched the ovule to the ovary wall. This scar
