PHP overview PHP is a recursive acronym which stands for ‘Hypertext Pre-processor Open source server side scripting language designed specifically for the web Used to generate dynamic webpages Interpreted langue, scripts are parsed at run time Executed on the server side Embedded directly in to html, not visible by the client can write to file system and also Outputs HTML, XML, images (JPG & PNG), PDF files and even Flash movies all generated on the fly Supports a wide-range of databases (20+ODBC) PHP also has support for talking to other services using protocols such as LDAP, IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, HTTP 2019 / 2011 EC [email protected] 3
