A leader is an individual who is has the ability to influence a group of people in order to work towards and achieve a common goal. Three effective leaders that stand out to me are; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and Stephen Hawking.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, was a phenomenal leader who was determined, intelligent, and confident. He was a social activist whom led the civil rights movement; a movementthat was meant to end racial segregation and discrimination in the southern United States. This occurred during the mid 1950s until he was assassinated in 1968, and rooted back to when African Americans were oppressed, in an effort to eliminate slavery.He even established the “Southern Christian Leadership Conference” in 1957, where him and his followers promoted nonviolent tactics and assisted local organizations working towards gaining full equality of African Americans. In 1963 he delivered his famous, “I have a dream” speech during the March on Washington; a mass protest for freedom and jobs in the presence of 250,000 people.The purpose of the speech was to expose the racial inequality to the American public.
