Experiments in political science have long been a used in social science as a means to gather data in an attempt to study subject matter. As Rebecca Morton and Kenneth Williams argue “most political scientists have a view of experimentation that fits a 1950s research methodology and misunderstand the issue of external validity.” Pioneer Harold Gosnell conducted such research on voting in 1924 (Gosnell, 1926); although there have been breakthroughs as both technique(s), methods and technology have evolved the concept remains that same. All researchers discuss and justify the reasoning behind political science experimentation(s) in relation to those that considered more scientific. As with other fields, the end goal typically serves a purpose: empirical, theoretical or policy- making (Morton & Williams, 2015).
