Zach Korte Essay The Passionate Shepherd to the Nymph In both “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” and “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd”, the poems are referring to love. No matter if the love is realistic or fiction, it is still love. “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” is about the love that the shepherd wants to enjoy with the girl of his dreams. The Shepherd wants to offer this girl everything he has just so that she will live with him and love him unconditionally. “The Nymph’s Reply to the Shepherd” is about the girl receiving the words written in “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” (Marlowe 1). This girl looks at their love realistically and realizes that everything comes to an end eventually. She looks at life around the relationship as it would be. In reading reviews of the poems, one may further understand what the poems are about. The review Explanation of: “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe states “it is written in the pastoral tradition that originated with Theocritus in Greece during the third century b.c.”
