Submit to the Invisible Man Poetry Dropbox The Invisible Man: Poetry The narrator of the Invisible Man , throughout the novel has reflected upon the transition of his naivet é to his new found revelations due to the obstacles and challenges he encounters. Through his revolution of self-discovery the narrator’s purpose correlates to match with the poem “Symphony”, by Paul Laurence Dunbar, in that the poem pertains to connect with the experiences the narrator of the novel. The poem focuses around the sentiment of the narrator comparing his misery to the bird’s torture held by the restraints of its cage and its yearning for freedom, “ I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,/... When he beats his bars and he would be free,”(14-16). The correlation between the poem and the novel coincide to how the narrator also feels caged by oppression, yet like the bird he knows the power of freedom allows him to do as he pleases, especially to be himself.
