Module 5: Discussion post 1. Name of agency and why you selected the agency? Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD). I selected this agency because I genuinely believe our veterans undoubtedly deserve to have the most abundant resources available in time of need, especially when they have respectfully dedicated their time defending us. I also believe this agency amply provides many various programs to assist our veterans to get back on their feet. They don’t assist only the veterans, but additionally provides their families with some assistance. What I relish about VVSD is it’s an agency that pays back to the community. 2. Brief history and mission of the agency Veterans Village of San Diego were founded in 1981 by a group of Vietnam veterans who wanted to help their fellow comrades who were homeless. They also wanted to enhance services for veterans because of the lack of medical and psychological care that were unavailable. As time progressed, VVSD funded and established many facilities through San Diego County. These facilities included a drug and alcohol rehab facility, transitional housing facility, sober living and emergency shelter center. By 2010, VVSD naturally went onto building many apartment housing units for its local community.
