PROJECT OVERVIEW PROJECT TITLE: Peripheral Vision and the Impacts of Age on Reaction Time PROJECT ABSTRACT: The abstract should be a one-paragraph summary of the protocol, including potential benefits, potential risks, and risk management procedures. Our project is based on the use of peripheral vision and reaction time. Peripheral vision is what we see in the far sides of our vision when staring forward. We are testing if peripheral vision and associated reaction time to stimulus is affected by age. Poles equipped with FITLIGHT bulbs will be positioned in the peripheral line of vision of different-aged subjects, and our sequence of flashing lights will test their reaction times within their field of peripheral vision. We will be working with different age groups, so we will have to make sure flashing lights will not be a problem for the volunteers. The experiment can provide volunteers with assurance that their peripheral vision is still intact and that they can rely on it to serve them in various situations like traffic, awareness, etc. PROJECT TYPE: Thesis Dissertation Class Project ( Select all that apply.) Pilot Project Faculty research project Professional paper or presentation Other: PROPOSED START DATE: Upon IRB approval Last updated 8/18/2016

RESEARCH PROTOCOL RESEARCH QUESTION(S) : Provide your research question(s) to be addressed by this proposed study. Does age effect the difference in reaction time between central and peripheral vision? PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND : Provide background information for the study in the box below, including the objective of the proposed research, purpose, hypotheses, and/or any other relevant information. Our experiment will use FITLIGHTs to measure the reaction time of sensory signal to motor movement between central vision and right and left peripheral vision. The knowledge about peripheral vision is relatively unknown and there is minimal research published that focuses specifically on age and a comparison between central and peripheral vision. In

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
