Scholarly Activity Summary Grand Canyon University: NRS-490Michelle AngusOverviewThe scholarly activity I participated in was a facility Filter Meeting. The Filter Meeting is an interdisciplinary team who meet once a month to discuss variances that have been selected by the hospital quality team due to their nature. These events include any “never event”, such as medication administration errors, wrong site surgery, and delay of care. The team assembled includes approximate 15 members, and additional leadership is called in to give details regardingevents on the agenda. Unlike Root Cause Analysis (RCA), the purpose of the Filter Meeting is tolook at the event and determine process gaps and assigned a harm score. The target audience within the facility is the facilities’ leadership and the system Filter Meeting, where the results from all 10 facilities within our system are reviewed for lessons learned that are applicable enterprise-wide. This meeting was beneficial to me as nurse due to the increased understanding of continuous process improvement and how the ratings such as SSE (serious safety events) 1-5 are determined.
