Introduction
Do millennials make an effective leadership? How are they any different from previous
generation, such as the Baby Boomers or Generation X? Millennials have been changing the
working environment in every firms since they came into the business industry almost a decade
ago. Millennials aspire to be leaders, and now since they are getting older, they are already
jumping into leadership and management positions. According to Sahai (2017), she stated that a
study conducted by Workplace Trends found 91% of millennials who responded want to have a
leadership role in their company, and 52% of whom were women. And another study conducted
by Bentley University determines that 66% of millennials responded that they would like to start
their own business (Sahai, 2017). So, based on the findings and resources, it is revealed to the
community that millennials want to bring new perspective ideas of leadership in several specific
ways, not just in the workplace, but also across community in general. Let’s discuss what kinds
of leadership that Millennials will offer in the business industry, what their leadership style will
look like and what they’re meant for in the future of work.
Who are millennials?
There are many different meanings of “millennial,” however, according to Alton (2018),
he mentioned that the earliest year for the Millennial generation is at 1981, which means that the
oldest Millennials are now 36. Based on the Pew Research, it was reported that those who were
born between 1981 and 1996 and the first generation to come of age in the new millennium are
considered as the Millennial generation,
In a Harvard Business Review, it has reviewed that the
average age of first-time managers is 30, which means that millennials are in the right timing to
become managers and may possess managerial skills and roles.

What makes millennials different?
Based on the findings and data, it was discovered Millennials are changing traditional
leadership. According to Fries (2018), she stated that millennials have a different approach in
leadership than from previous generations. Some of the different approaches include embracing
flat management structure, expressing different needs regarding leadership training, value
feedback from all employers and employees, seeking empowerment, and most importantly, they
require work-life balance and support flexibility.
