In the beginning of the play,she is very angry at her children for not being able to grasp the sacrifices that she and her husband have made to provide for the family. By the end, she is exposed to more of their ideas and their own struggles, and eventually realizes that society is moving forward and she must learn to change with it. However, sticking close to her core values allows her to maintain her strength and positive attitude throughout the play.As the matriarch of the household who is constantly demanding respect from her children, Lena, or Mama, is involved in almost every single conflict in the play. Seeing as all of the conflicts stem from the family and the desires of each individual member of the family, Mama always has input or tries to shift other characters’ views. She wants the best for her children, and attempts to play god with the family to ensure that her kids don’t make decisions that she would view as wrong. The major conflict of the play is what will be done with the insurance money, and because Lena is the one who lost her husband, Beneatha tells Walter Lee
