Heffron 1 Charlotte Heffron Honors English II/5 Dr. Conway March 07 2018 The Bean Trees Synthesis Essay Taylor went from a young woman who was afraid of exploding tires and teen pregnancy to having a child of her own, working at a tire store, and having a supporting community to take care of her. The community that Taylor has built in The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver, is an odd mix of different people, yet they fit together perfectly and support one another. Taylor’s move to Tucson leads to new friends and conquered fears. Diane Manuel in her review states that Taylor is “growing from happy-go lucky hillbilly to caring friend and parent.” (Book review 2) throughout the course of the book. This statement is very true as we see Taylor’s character develop and change throughout her new life in Arizona. One of the main people that helps her go through this change is Lou Ann. Her overly polite and caring nature rubs off on Taylor, and since she is a new mother as well, the two of them help each other in raising their children. Taylor finds a new softness towards Turtle through Lou Ann, and she decides to take care of and protect Turtle throughout their lives. Lou Ann also changes Taylor’s view on men,
